Agricultural Section

The Agricultural Section represents U.S. agricultural interests on Taiwan with the goal of increasing Taiwan′s agricultural imports from the United States. The section′s responsibilities are to: 1) analyze and report on Taiwan′s agricultural production, demand for agricultural commodities and products, market opportunities, and the nature of competition from other suppliers; 2) reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers on U.S. agricultural exports to Taiwan; and 3) advise and support USDA and the private U.S. agricultural sector regarding market conditions, market development strategies, and the evaluation of market development activities and campaigns.

Agricultural Trade Office (ATO)

Agricultural Trade Office Director –  flamengo x fluminense:Emily Scott
The Agricultural//royalcartas777.vip/emily-scott-assumes-duties-as-director-of-agricultural-trade-office/ Trade Office’s major focus is providing marketing assistance to U.S. companies and associations interested in exporting food and agricultural products to Taiwan. The ATO oversees and supports the activities of more than forty agricultural market development cooperators of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, four of which maintain offices with market directors on Taiwan; the U.S. Soybean Export Council, the U.S. Grains Council, the U.S. Wheat Associates, and the U.S. Meat Export Association. In addition, the ATO assists local Taiwan importers in locating reliable U.S. suppliers through the computerized trade leads service and the resources of the ATO library. Finally, to match exporters’ and importers’ interests, the ATO sponsors food shows and other promotional activities throughout the year.

Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)

Agricultural Scientist –

APHIS’ mission is to “safeguard the health, welfare and value of American agriculture and natural resources.”  AIT’s APHIS Office directly contributes to this mission by working with local authorities in Taiwan to: 1) Safeguard exports of Taiwan-origin agricultural products to ensure quarantine pests and invasive species are excluded and not inadvertently introduced into the U.S. via air or maritime cargo; 2) Promote safe imports of U.S.-origin agricultural products to Taiwan in a manner that ensures animal and plant pests are excluded and the value of U.S.-origin products are maintained; 3) Advance the adoption of bilateral trade protocols that align with internationally recognized science-based standards and guidelines established by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC); and 4) Establish and maintain a strong collaborative working partnership with counterpart Taiwan regulatory agencies through scientific exchanges on animal and plant pest and disease control, management and eradication.

The Commercial Section assists U.S. exporters by arranging appointments with potential local business partners or relevant authorities, providing information on the Taiwan market for U.S. goods and services, and maintaining an on-line directory of U.S. suppliers for use by local importers.

Consular Section

Consular Section Chief – John Morgan
The Consular Section of the American Institute in Taiwan provides assistance to American citizens residing in or visiting Taiwan and Visa services for temporary visitors and immigrants to the United States. The Citizen Services Unit helps American citizens with passport applications and renewals, reports of birth for children born in Taiwan, voter registration, applications for Social Security numbers, federal benefits, child custody issues, and notarial services. The unit also provides emergency services for American citizens in distress. The Visa Unit processes both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas. Nonimmigrant visas are processed for persons who seek short-term visas to the United States, such as tourist visas, business visas, student visas, crew visas, temporary work permits, etc. Immigrant visas are processed for persons who are entitled to reside permanently in the United States.

The Economic Section works on behalf of U.S. industry and the American public to advance U.S. economic interests throughout Taiwan.  The section works in concert with other economic and trade agencies throughout the U.S. government and routinely engages with Taiwan where our interests align, on everything from sanctions implementation to supply chain resilience.

The Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) administers the U.S. Government’s official information, educational, and cultural exchange activities in Taiwan. Through its Press Office, PDS handles all public affairs matters and media relations concerning the American Institute in Taiwan, the United States Government, and U.S. policies toward Taiwan.  The Press Office also assists other agencies and elements of AIT in their media activities and programs. The Cultural Section coordinates and supports U.S. cultural and educational initiatives in Taiwan, along with a range of visitor and educational exchanges, including Fulbright. The section also oversees six American Spaces, with programs that focus on education advising, science and technology, arts and culture, and information about the United States.
